Orlando to the University of South Carolina, the University of Central Florida, and finally Florida State University. These unexpected major life changes have provided Sydney Rotar quite the unusual college experience. She is currently a senior at FSU pursuing her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Marketing, planning to graduate this spring. Upon graduation, Sydney plans to pursue a Master’s of Science Degree in Marketing.
After transferring to Florida State University she quickly found her niche and has enjoyed the business program immensely. She is excited to continue her studies under the professors she has grown to admire. After such a fast-paced, ever-changing undergraduate experience, she is eager to settle down and to delve deeper into her field. The Preparing Future Professionals certificate, Teaching Assistant program, and American Marketing Association are all opportunities she is eager to take advantage of and she plans to continue her involvement in the Women in Business organization.
After earning her graduate degree she t plans to join an in-house marketing team for a company in the retail, specifically the fashion, industry. She has always been drawn to a creative fields and believes the best marketers are those who are passionate about the products and/or services they endorse. Growing up with both parents in the industry, she has always been very interested in fashion. She has held multiple positions in sales: part-time at Abercrombie Kids and full-time as a seasonal intern at Neiman Marcus. Through these employment opportunities she was able to learn how and why customers are attracted to specific products.
She interned for Sweet Pea Wedding and Event Coordinators in 2011. While not in the retail field, this internship provided ample experience developing and carrying out her own small-scale marketing plan. Through various e-marketing techniques such as blogging, social media management, and search engine optimization she was able to help this new company build a larger client base and repertoire in the industry in-house.
Her most valuable experience has been as a marketing and product development intern for DRSA. She has had the opportunity to develop a collegiate-licensed lingerie line for this company that will be sold in Dillard’s stores nationwide, Footballfanatics.com, and Caesars entertainment hotels. She is also currently working on an extension of the line with NFL licenses that will be presented to NFL licensing representatives. She has designed the line, packaging, and marketing strategy for this collection.
In her spare time she enjoys her involvement in her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, which she has been a member of at all three universities. She enjoyed her yearlong position as T-Shirt and Gift Mart chair for ADPi at the University of Central Florida. Her position entailed coordinating with and promoting Alpha Delta Pi’s national Gift Mart store. She also helped “market” the chapter on campus by designing and selling Alpha Delta Pi merchandise. She analyzed my peers to develop products and designs they would want to purchase and promoted the sisterhood she is passionate about in the process.
Besides Alpha Delta Pi, Sydney enjoys painting, fashion, boating, and spending time with friends. She adores Tallahassee and the state of Florida and loves exploring everything they have to offer.
